Masjid Agung Jawa Tengah (MAJT) / Masjid Semarang is one of the greatest mosques in Indonesia.  

MAJT with beautiful architecture was built in Friday, 6th September 2002  and completed in 14th November 2006.  

Mosque complex consists of the main building area of ​​7669 m2 and 7500 m2 area of ​​the yard. Masjid Agung Jawa Tengah is located on the Gajah Raya street, Desa Sambirejo, Kecamatan Gayamsari, Semarang, Central Java, Indonesia.



All Masjid Agung Jawa Tengah visitors will be treated to the unique architecture of the mosque which is blend of Javanese, Romans and Arab architecture.  
Javanese architecture is seen in the bottom of the pole using traditional motif such as Tumpal, Untu Walang, Kawung, and Parang-Parangan.

Architectural features of the Middle East (Arabic) are seen on the walls of the mosque which are decorated with calligraphy.

Another uniqueness of this mosque there are 6 giant hydraulic umbrellas which can open and close automatically.  


This is an adoption of Masjid Nabawi architectural building in Medina Saudi Arabia.


The mosque also slightly influenced by the style of Roman architecture. The style was apparent in interior design and color layer attached to the corners of the building.


The mosque can accommodate about 15,000 pilgrims was inaugurated by the President of the Republic of Indonesia, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, in 14th November 2006.

Inauguration ceremony was marked by the signing of the stone inscriptions as high as 3.2 meters and a weight of 7.8 tons which is located in front of the mosque.



The inscription is made of natural stone from the slopes of Mount Merapi. Aside from being a place of worship, the Masjid Agung Jawa Tengah is also an integrated tourism education, religion, education center and activity center symbols of Islam.

In the mosque complex is well equipped and crafty by the 18 floors tower named Husna Asmaul Tower. Asmaul Husna Tower contained Museum of Islamic Development in Central Java at 2nd and 3rd Floor, and the best view in restaurant in the city of Semarang in 18th Floor.
